A presentation on the sociological aspect of Ayurveda as an alternative to medicine?

Question by Natz: A presentation on the sociological aspect of Ayurveda as an alternative to medicine?
I’m trying to find a focus for a presentation I have to give in about six weeks time. Basically, I need to find a sociology-based focus on Ayurveda as an alternative to medicine. My seminar leader suggested that I could focus on WHY people lean towards Ayurveda but was wondering if you guys might have some sort of suggestion? Anything would be helpful! Many thanks!

I dont know much about it, but I know I’ve heard of ayurveda before in recordings by Deepak Chopra.. maybe you could explore what he has to say about its benefits as reasoning why people would choose it

good luck =)

One Response to A presentation on the sociological aspect of Ayurveda as an alternative to medicine?

  1. Tita says:

Ayurveda is a naturopathic system of medicine that is practiced in India and based on the principles derived from the ancient Hindu scriptures – known as the Vedas.
Vedas are the most sacred of Hinduism (scriptures) and the oldest of Sanskirt dated as far back as the 1500 or 2000 BC.
Summary: Veda has four main by-laws. The practice includes hymns and praises ~ prayers and sacrifice ~ tunes and chants ~ lastly the Veda – officiating priests at the sacrifice.
Because we are viewed as a we are microcosmic representatives of the entire universe we must be in or close to balance with the environment and personal(inter) communication. With that our health is the natural end of the living in harmony with the environment. Diseases are viewed in a negative (dis-harmony in the Envir.) which will dictate a unique cure for every human because we are not the same in mind-body and spirit. Our “Doshas”, will show what therapies are needed including diet, herbs, colors and sound. ** Where aromatherapy has been invented through medicated oils to the skin and massage, and meditation.
So, why do people lean towards this? It makes sense. We are in a society that are becoming more Spiritual than religious. With Spirituality includes holistic healing because it remedies the Mind~Spirit and Body. This is similar to the Kahuna – Hawaiian medicine. You will find that majority of holistic healing have a common which is “Meditation” which is based on posiitive affirmations and energy.
Organized religions do not practice nor are they offered. Our western medicine are fast relief for ailments, which work for some but it does not clear the negative enviroment in which they occupy,( work,school,home,Etc..).
With holistic healing you first must be “healed” within before it can show externally.
I hope this makes sense. Good question too.
